Pet Health Schemes

Many veterinary surgeries offer pet health schemes for their clients to join. These offer a way of spreading the cost of routine veterinary care. Each scheme will have its own benefits and will vary from clinic to clinic.

Generally you will pay a monthly direct debit to cover the cost of routine vaccinations and anti- parasitic medications. This fee will be governed by the size of your dog (our practice has 4 bands - small <10kgs, medium 10-25kg, large 25-40kg, extra-large 40+ kg).

Members of our plan also get their annual booster (covering them against distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, flu and leptospirosis) and kennel cough vaccines included. Most puppies are now microchipped by their breeders but if they arrive without one the price is also included in the plan. Full parasitic cover is included - most of our clients use an oral medication called Nexguard which covers fleas, ticks, roundworms and lungworm and is given monthly.

Additionally the plan also covers a quarterly multiwormer called Milbemax which eliminates tapeworms. An alternative topical combined flea and wormer called Advocate can be obtained if preferred. These medications are posted out to clients quarterly so there is no need to collect them.

There is a 10% discount on all fees including consultations, dentals, surgical procedures and medicines. The plan allows unlimited free nail clips with the vet or nurse. The same applies to weight, dental and anal gland checks.

It includes a yearly urinalysis test which can detect early kidney disease or diabetes. It also covers an annual wellness blood test which checks haematology (red and white blood cells) and health of the major body organs. Additionally there is a free 6-month health check with the veterinary surgeon, this is similar to the check received at the annual vaccination and is useful to pick up problems early such as heart murmurs or lumps.
