Apply to Become a Dog Carer

Home from Home was established in 1996 and was the first home dog boarding agency in the UK. We are the largest agency in London and throughout Essex, Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.

Clients who use Home from Home prefer not to put their dogs into traditional boarding kennels and are looking to board their dog in a safe, clean, caring family home. We pride ourselves on the service we offer and have an excellent reputation within the pet industry and veterinary surgeons.

Dogs that are placed by Home from Home are housetrained and non-aggressive. We only accept large dogs that have a calm, placid nature and are well behaved. We do not generally consider very young puppies, but you can state if you are happy to do so. You will be able to specify which breeds of dogs fit in with your lifestyle best.

We are very flexible and will be happy for you to take just an occasional dog or we can approach you with as many bookings as you wish. Carers do have regular dogs that they care for time and time again however, this is not regular work; some of our bookings are just for weekends and others can be for over a month at a time.

As a carer, you will be expected to feed, walk and care for the dogs as would their owners. The questionnaire the owner completes gives lots of information about their dog's temperament and habits. This information is passed onto you. You will get to meet the dog before the booking starts to ensure that you are happy. You have the option to reject the booking once you have met the dog if you feel uncomfortable.

We provide you with a full emergency back up service 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, so that should any problems occur you can contact us at any time.

If you think you would like to become a carer and join the Home from Home team, please complete the application form below. Once the agency has received your application, you will be contacted and interviewed at home. If successful, you will be placed on our register and we will contact you with bookings.

Monty and Diesel have just spent a weekend with Shelia and she was brilliant!!!

Thank you so much.

Mrs P, Hertfordshire - June 2015

I left Chucky, my 4 year old Labradoodle with Tracie for the weekend. When I first arrived at her house Tracie showed me around and her place was perfect for an energetic dog like mine. She listened to what requirements we had, when to feed him and so on. When I arrived to pick him up he was happily playing with a large array of toys which Tracie provided in her garden.

I highly recommend her and I hope when I go away again later in the year I can use her. I will feel at ease knowing that Tracie is looking after him.

Mr L, Middlesex - June 2015

Alfie has just returned from another stay with Christine and Bob and as usual has thoroughly enjoyed his mini-break! I am absolutely delighted with the service and feel very happy and relaxed to know that Alfie is well cared for when we are away.

Mrs W, Hampshire - June 2015

We wanted to say a huge thank you for your care and support in looking after Jess. Both you and lovely Sheila have been fantastic in ensuring Jess got the best care possible, as soon as possible, thank you so much for this. Your determined efforts in trying to contact us whilst away was a credit to you, I am angry with myself for assuming you were the dreaded PPI cold callers! I had problems with my voicemail all week but rest assured this will never happen again! I will ensure I know what I have to do to access my voicemail as soon as we touch down next time.

It is testimony to you and Sheila that we felt no concern about leaving Jess and very relaxed about not constantly ringing or checking my phone, we felt we had left Jess in safe hands and so we had! So, thank you Emma, thank you to you and the team, we have used your service a couple of times now and will not be going back to our previous dog sitters.

We picked Jess up late this afternoon, she is feeling fragile but has eaten and is now sleeping peacefully, if she could talk, she would say: "Thank you to you and 'Aunty Sheila' for looking after me, sorry to put you to so much trouble, I asked Mum an Dad to buy Aunty Sheila a thank you card and some flowers as I know she was upset about having to leave me with the dreaded vets, sorry to cause you all so much trouble"

So there we are, we will keep in touch and hope this has not put you off looking after our Jess in the future.

Many, many thanks,

Mrs H, Mr H & Jess
